Roswell and Emmett, famously missing, said [...] they didn't tell anyone they wanted a break because they thought I would tell them no. I wouldn't have told them no. I just wanted them to tell someone where they were going.

I see. Well, you do often tell people no with unilateral authority. But it comes from a place of care and concern. They are wrong to think that you would have told them they could not take a break though. That sounds like they are making excuses for their mistake. They are both unusually sensitive to being viewed as capable of making mistakes.
